Play with Purpose: Child-Centered Play Therapy

What: Mindful Mending presents “Play With Purpose: Child-Centered Play Therapy,” a live, in-person continuing education experience designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and application of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). This training introduces the foundational principles of CCPT, including key developmental differences between children and adults, the therapeutic rationale for Play Therapy, the historical development of CCPT, Axline’s Eight Principles, and the stages of the CCPT process.

Through lecture, discussion, experiential learning, and role play, participants will learn and practice core Play Therapy skills such as tracking, reflecting feelings, returning responsibility, empathy, and limit setting. The training will also address playroom structure, essential Play Therapy materials, and strategies for involving parents and guardians as partners in the Play Therapy process. Attendees will leave with practical tools to integrate CCPT skills into their professional clinical work with children and families.

Who: Jenifer Jimison, MSW, RPT, EMDR CIT

Jenifer Jimison is a licensed clinical social worker and Registered Play Therapist who is the founder and clinical director of Mindful Mending. Jenifer works with children, adolescents, and adults, with a strong focus on child centered play therapy, trauma informed care, and attachment based approaches. Jenifer also provides continuing education, supervision, and training for mental health professionals.
